Jackie Chan The Myth (2005)
 Jack (Jackie Chan) is an archeologist who digs into China's past to bring to the present her rich heritage, folklore and ancient secrets. He does this in collaboration with his friend and partner, William (Tony Leung Ka Fai) who's more interested in the scientific aspects of the project, particularly, the ancient knowledge of longevity and anti-gravity. But Jackie begins to dream and imagine the tragic lost lore story of General Meng-Yi and concubine Li (Hee-seon Kim) who lived and loved during the reign of Emperor Huang Ti, 2000 years ago. Two parallel stories, present and ancient, develop as Jack unearths bits and pieces of what happened to the two lovers. But the more he learns and gazes at the beautiful face of concubine Li, the deeper, Jack falls in love with her. Jack begins to wonder if he is the reincarnation of the general and if she is also reincarnated and waiting for him to return to her as the myth foretells. Finally, Jack discovers a cave where the past and the present meet and the story is resolved. Jackie Chan has made his mark in both the Chinese and international cinema with his signature martial arts sequences which combine acrobatics, comedy and unorthodox fighting styles. In The Myth, Chan attempts to put more into his performance by adding romance as well as a touch of history. He even endeavors to develop his serious dramatic side with the tragic character hero, General Meng-ye. But this proves too much of a stretch even for this agile actor; fortunately the film still has plenty of entertaining martial arts sequences that audiences have come to expect from Jackie Chan, especially the "rat glue factory sequence". The Myth tells of an immortal love story between a soldier and a concubine. The warrior is tasked to escort and provide security to a beautiful woman chosen to be the emperor's bride. The woman, a concubine, falls in love with the soldier and he is torn between his loyalty to the king and his love for the woman. The man chooses honor and fidelity to his emperor over love and personal happiness with the woman he loves, and that's what makes this story timeless and eternal. It shows that there could be no love without honor and fidelity to one's duty, that true love is eternal and never fades, and that for as long as lovers continue to love each other they continue to live forever.
